Oreo Truffles

My kids love the “Oreo Balls” found on cookie trays at Christmastime.  I have never made them, and so when I saw that Pale Yellow had done a truffle version of them on her blog, I decided it was time the kids and I make them together.  To say the least, they were very excited!

Oreo Truffles

Pale Yellow is my assigned blog this month for The Secret Recipe Club.  Tracy’s blog is a perfect spot to park your sweet tooth.  Sure, she shares what she refers to as “real meals” on occasion, but if you are looking for something sweet, Tracy is your girl.  She is a science teacher by day, and proud turtle mom.  She blogs to share her love of baking, and has no plans to quit her day job.

Her love for making treats for those she cares about, really resonated with me.  Like me, she puts her whole heart into what she makes, and when she makes something special for you, you know it’s her way of saying “Hey, I love you and you deserved something special.”

Oreo Truffles - An Affair from the Heart

You must know Tracy’s Oreo Truffles weren’t an easy choice for me.  At first glance I planned to make her Irish Coffee Pudding Shots, perfect for St. Patty’s Day, don’t you think?  I can assure you that her Apple Pie Overnight Oatmeal will be happening soon, and I already have the ingredients bought for her Sumbitches cookies!

Oreo Truffles

You all know that I am a sucker for Valentine’s Day, and this recipe was perfect to decorate all pink and red — plus, it’s so easy, you can whip these up in no time and share them with your Valentine, or maybe your kids’ teachers? Heck, save them for yourself, and pop open a nice bottle of wine and watch your favorite chick flick.  It’s your Valentine’s Day — who am I to tell you how to celebrate? 😉

Ingredients

  • 1 14.3 ounce package Oreo cookies, crushed
  • 1 8 ounce package Cream Cheese, softened
  • 1 pound candy melts
  • sprinkles optional

Instructions

  • Using your food processor, crush oreo into fine crumbs. Pour into a mixing bowl.
  • Place softened cream cheese in mixer bowl and using the paddle attachment, mix until Oreos and cream cheese are creamed together.
  • Using your cookie scoop, scoop out portions of cookie mixture and place on a parchment sheet covered cookie sheet. I rolled mine with the palms of my hands, too, to get them nice and smooth.
  • Place cookie sheet int he freezer for an hour or two.
  • Place a couple inches of water in a medium sized sauce pan and place a glass bowl over the top, taking care not to let the bowl touch the water. Turn to medium heat. Place candy melts in the bowl and occasionally stir until they are melted.
  • Place a toothpick in the oreo truffle and dip in the melting candy. Tap to release extra and place back on the cookie sheet. Let candy set.
  • Place remaining melted candy in a zippered bag, snipping of the corner, drizzle over the tops of each truffle and quickly, while it's still wet, sprinkle with sugar crystals or sprinkles. When candy is set, shake off excess.
  • Store in the refrigerator.

  1. I love all the sweets on the Pale Yellow blog too but I think you picked a great one for Valentine’s Day.Your truffles came out looking so pretty and your photos look good enough to eat! And it must have been fun making these with the kids. I know mine always loved rolling the dough into balls and then decorating them. I think it put them in sprinkle heaven. 🙂
